Instructional Goals
  • To achieve success in all content area classes
  • To develop and reinforce study and organizational skills
  • To promote student responsibility and personal life skills
  • To strengthen awareness of current events, contemporary issues, and cultural literacy through reading and writing skills.
Organization of Instruction

  • The first half of each class period will be teacher-directedand lesson addressing study skills, organization skills, job-related skills and individual needs.
  • The second half of each class period will be independent study of content area classes: teacher direction, guidance, and assistance will be availabe to each student.
  • Each student's progress will be monitored routinely. Progress reports will be available to each student and his/her teachers and parents. Direct communication with the students' teachers and parents is an essential part of this course.
  • The individual needs and goals (personal and academic) of each student will be addressed and considered in all aspects of this course. Modification and differentiation will be followed from students' IEP.


Student Responsibilities
  • Each student is responsible for bringing all necessary materials to class daily.
  • The student will be responsible for organizing a content area notebook and dialectical journal and making sure his or her agenda is filled out everyday with his or her assignments.
  • Active participation in all teacher-directed, whole-group, small-group, and independent activities is required.
  • Each student is expected to use this time, during class, to ensure his/her academic success.
  • Each student is expected to behave in an appropriate manner and show consideration for each person in the classroom.

Behavior Management Plan

To ensure an effective learning environment for all students, the following rules will be implemented:
1. Bring all necessary materials (ie: pencil, paper, textbooks, agenda, and project materials) to class.
2. Follow all instructions (The Manteo High School Code of Conduct)
3. Be alert and attentive in class.
4. Respect all teachers, students, and school/teacher/student property.

Consequences

If the student chooses not to follow these rules the following consequences will be implemented:
1. Warning
2. A conference with the teacher
3. A phone call home to the parent with the student present
4. Empower hour or after school detension
5. Disciplinary notice to grade level principal
6. Referral to the SACs Team
*Any behavior which is detrimental to the learning atmosphere or to the safety of the teacher or students warrants immediate action.
